Cross-language VOT Perception: the First Perception of Stops in Unfamiliar Languages

Voice Onset Time (VOT) is arguably the most robust acoustic factor in the perception of plosives. This study describes the VOT of speakers of different native languages when they reproduce an unfamiliar language. We try to figure out whether acoustic similarity or typological similarity of the languages has more influence on VOT perception and reproduction, and furthermore, how does VOT indicate the accent perception and formation.
